SciFinder Scholar 2007 for MAC OS X

You can now use SciFinder Scholar for the MAC OS X from your office or lab. SciFinder Scholar is a Client/Server interface used to search the electronic version of Chemical Abstracts along with the CAS registry, reactions and regulatory information databases. It contains nearly 14 million citations from over 8,000 journals worldwide. Medline is also included (to view other ways to access Medline, see http://library.louisville.edu/research/sub/dbsM.html and scroll down to Medline). Scholar 2007 offers varied ways to search and explore chemical information. When available, the full-text of articles found with SciFinder Scholar can be accessed.

Downloading/installing instructions

To install SciFinder Scholar 2007 for MAC OS X:

  1. Exit all applications on your MAC (NOTE: you can only download and use SciFinder Scholar from a computer within the UofL IP range).
  2. Click on: >>Download SciFinder Scholar 2007 for MAC OS X<< to download the SciFinder Scholar 2007 for the MAC OS X install software.
  3. Save the .dmg file to your desktop or download folder (~14.1MB).
  4. On some systems, Macintosh Disk Image Files (*.dmg) will automatically mount. If not, double-click sfs2007.dmg to mount the disk image. (Macintosh Disk Image Files behave like a CR-ROM; they open an icon on your desktop.)

  5. Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar Application Package (the SciFinder Scholar icon on the white "button") into your Applications folder.
  6. Double-click the HardDrive/Applications/SciFinder Scholar icon to launch SciFinder Scholar.
  7. Optional) Create an alias for your Desktop or Dock.

    NEXT: You will need to obtain a MAC OS X login security file. For instructions on how to download the security file and where to place it. Please refer to the CAS install instructions. Once the login security file is properly placed you will be able to use SciFinder Scholar.

You may not need a compound viewer. If you do pleae verify with the CAS website which viewer you need. Discovery Studio Visualizer and Web Viewer Lite are for the PC or Linux only .
